Located in the U.S., Hydroid is a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime, the world’s most trusted manufacturer of advanced Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). Hydroid’s REMUS AUVs provide innovative and reliable full-picture solutions for the marine research, defense, hydrographic and offshore/energy markets.
Developed by a veteran team of engineers, the company’s products and solutions provide a safe and reliable answer to the challenges that have hampered ocean exploration and security. Hydroid employees are passionate about their work and strive to produce top-quality products and service. All products are designed, manufactured, marketed and sold from the Hydroid facility in Cape Cod, MA.
The REMUS robotics systems use several layers of software to create a reliable system. Students will be exposed to a number of different development environments. The position description is broad because projects will be assigned based on student interest and skill level. Problem solvers and innovators welcome. Projects may include the following:
Develop embedded (board level) test applications for testing motor control boards and sensors.
Automate robot log reporting using web-based approach (HTML/PHP/RUBY/SQL).
Create an automated tool for reviewing Hydroid missions to define/create pass fail criteria for production. Metrics would include Long Base Line (LBL), Ultra Short Base Line (USBL) control statistics, navigation accuracy and power estimates.
Work with network protocols and graphics engines (Direct X, Open GL) to develop next generation Vehicle Interface Program (VIP) and analysis GUIs.
Develop SQL database for robot data.
Develop control algorithms for robotic tasks.
Develop real-time control algorithms within our RECON test software. RECON allows remote computers to control the REMUS mission plan and sensor control. Hydroid has existing software to do this but would like to expand the capabilities for our users.
Hydroid would like to see students with previous exposure to these areas: embedded, GUI, network and MATLAB development. Experience with C and C++ is a plus.
A condition of this position will require the successful Applicant to pass a government security investigation and must subsequently receive authorization to access US Department of Defense Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”) and potentially classified information.
